The Things You're Still Wondering
I bought a washable mat before and it leaked. Why would this be different?
Fair question, and the honest answer is that most of them fail the same way. A thin sprayed-on waterproof coating flexes every time it goes through the machine, and after a dozen cycles it cracks. You never see the cracks. You just see a wet floor under a mat that still looks fine on top.
Denwell uses a sealed TPU film instead, which moves with the fabric rather than sitting on it. That's why it's rated across 300 washes rather than a few months.
What if I spend the money and it still doesn't work?
You have 90 days — and not 90 days sealed in the packaging. Put it down, let your dog use it, run it through the wash. If it isn't right, send it back for a refund.
You've likely already spent money on something that didn't fix this. You shouldn't have to spend on faith a second time.
How many do I need?
Three is the sweet spot for one dog: one on the floor, one clean in the cupboard, one in the wash. That way you're never standing there with a wet mat and a dog who needs to go now.
Puppies and senior dogs go through more, so four gives you breathing room. If your dog uses more than one spot in the house, count a mat for each.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash on a normal cycle with your usual detergent. Tumble dry low or hang it.
No bleach and no fabric softener. Softener leaves a film on the fibres that repels liquid instead of absorbing it. It's the most common reason a washable mat quietly stops working, and people almost always blame the mat.
Will my house still smell?
The fabric has a light, fresh scent — noticeably better than the plastic smell of a disposable pad, and not a heavy perfume sitting on top of something. It softens with washing and there's nothing to reapply.
The bigger factor is that liquid gets pulled into the core rather than left on the surface, so there's less sitting out in the open between washes.
How long will it actually last?
Rated for up to 300 machine washes. At two washes a week that's roughly three years from a single mat. Rotate between two or three and they last longer still, because each one goes through the machine less often.
My dog is used to disposables. Will they switch?
Most take to it quickly — the surface feels closer to a rug than to plastic, and there's no crinkling underfoot.
If yours hesitates, put the new mat in the exact spot the old pad was and leave it there a few days. Don't move it around while they're adjusting. Changing the surface and the location at the same time is what confuses them.
My dog goes right beside the mat, not on it.
Almost always a size problem rather than a training one. Dogs have little sense of where their back end is — front paws land on the mat, the brain says "I'm on it," and the rest hangs off the edge.
Go one size up from what you think you need, and put the mat against a wall or into a corner so there's a natural stopping point behind them.
Can I use it in a crate, playpen or car?
Yes to all three, plus under a bed for a dog with incontinence. The 20" × 16" is sized for crates and carriers specifically.
The Worst Case Is You Post It Back
Put it down. Let your dog use it. Wash it as many times as you like. If it doesn't do what we've said it does, send it back within 90 days and we'll refund you.
